Summary

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Manager, Payroll and Benefits, this position is responsible for administering accurate, efficient and timely payroll in a deadline driven service environment.  Working in a team environment the position provides resource and tactical support to People and Culture, Payroll and Total Rewards functions.

Responsibilites:

  • Conduct bi-weekly payroll data entries in Dayforce, including new hires, termination and payroll/benefits/pension changes, accurately and on time.
  • Review appropriateness of authorized payroll transactions and conduct appropriate follow-up for the missing approvals/documents. Ensure adherence to internal controls.
  • Complete digital documents filing process on a biweekly basis; Maintain accurate/approved payroll records to facilitate auditing and readily access information.
  • Responsible for the benefit/pension/EUPP enrolment, change and termination process. 
  • Provide timely responses to the inquiries from internal clients such as employees and departments, and external clients such as Benefit provider/WCB, utilizing knowledge and interpretation of policies, procedures and legislation.
  • Maintain high level of payroll, benefits and general HR knowledge to provide value added payroll services.
  • Prepare payroll reports utilizing Dayforce report writer as required. Create, modify, and utilize spreadsheets to administer various payroll transactions such as Payroll Tracker, Pension Tracker.
  • Develop/maintain productive relationships with management and employees.
  • Reconcile and prepare timely remittances (including group benefits premium payment, pension contribution reports, garnishment, etc.).
  • Provide input/recommendations on process improvements and efficiencies.
  • Provide back-up support to Senior Payroll and Benefits Specialist. This individual is expected to be able to run payroll independently.
  • Other duties / projects as assigned.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Post secondary education in a related discipline.
  • Certified Payroll Designation from the Canadian Payroll Association an asset.
  • Minimum 2 to 3 years’ experience administering full cycle payroll in a complex/dynamic corporate environment. 
  • Strong technical understanding of payroll systems, preferably experience with Ceridian Dayforce.
  • Advanced skills in Word, Excel (vlookup, pivot table) and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with high volume, multiple requests/priorities and organize work schedule to deliver successful results within agreed upon timeframes.
  • Comprehensive and demonstrated knowledge of payroll-related, multi-provincial legislative requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high-level customer service orientation while remaining calm and professional in high pressure situations.
  • Strong work ethic with a high level of accountability/responsibility.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Detail oriented; strong analytical skills with ability to resolve complex payroll issues.
  • Tact and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive and confidential situations.
