Summary

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, Legal, this position is responsible for providing administrative and other support to RioCan’s Legal Department.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation of commercial contracts and other legal documentation, including commercial leases and correspondence;
  • Proofread legal agreements, including commercial leases and various corporate documents, and attend to their execution and distribution;
  • Update internal status reports for ongoing legal matters;
  • Follow-up with tenants and their legal representatives on outstanding documentation, and act as a liaison within, as well as outside, the organization;
  • Attend to payment and categorization of legal invoicing and assist with generating various reports relating to legal spend;
  • Administrative support such as filing, scanning, photocopying, document uploading to internal databases and submitting expense reimbursements for team members, as required;
  • Attend weekly departmental meetings;
  • Other duties / projects as required.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Successful completion of a related post-secondary program i.e. legal assistant diploma preferred, but not essential;
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in a law firm, in-house legal department, or real estate organization;
  • Experience in drafting legal documentation would be an asset, but not essential;
  • Basic knowledge of commercial lease terminology would be an asset;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate across all levels within, as well as outside the organization;
  • Detail-oriented, with excellent organizational and time management skills;
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment;
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple competing priorities;
  • Ability to show initiative and work independently;
  • Experience with Teraview would be an asset;
  • Proficient in Word, Excel and Outlook.
